Ombudsman Profile

Major (Retd.) Azam Suleman Khan took oath as the 8th Ombudsman for the Province of Punjab on 1st day of July 2020. He has obtained different trainings at national and international level. He joined the civil service in 1991, during his career he has served the Federal Government and Provincial Governments in various capacities. Prior to his appointment as Provincial Ombudsman Punjab, he was Secretary Interior, Government of Pakistan. He also remained head of two foreign donor projects titled ‘Strengthening of Decentralized Local Government, Faisalabad’ funded by the Department for International Development, UK (DFID) and ‘Kasur Tanneries Pollution Control Project’ funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He has vast experience of working in both Provincial and Federal Governments. He served in three Provinces Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh. He is one of the distinguished officers who has served as Chief Secretary of two Provinces Punjab and Sindh.

At Federal level, he served twice as Secretary, Ministry of Interior. At Provincial level, he has served as Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Home Department, Govt. of the Punjab. He also remained posted as Secretary, Govt. of the Punjab, Home Department; Food Department; Communication & Works Department; Irrigation & Power Department; Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries and Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority. He has vast experience to serve as Commissioner, Lahore; District Coordination Officer, Faisalabad; Additional Director, Anti-Corruption; Additional Home Secretary; District Coordination Officer, Multan; Director Labour, Labour & Human Resource Department; Deputy Commissioner, Kasur; Deputy Secretary Police, Home Department; Director (Admin), Punjab Employees Social Security Institution; Assistant Commissioner, Kohat; and Assistant Commissioner (U.T), Mansehra.
